FromSoftware Inc., the developer of this game, is popular for its tradition of punishing beauty. The same tradition continues in the mysterious, open, brutal, and magnificently designed Elden Ring. The game takes the challenging combat of Dark Souls and adds a sweeping, open-world setting. Then, it gives players a sense of freedom that is often missing in Soulslike Games. I cannot call it a perfect game. However, only a few games give you quite the reward, depth, and scope balance that Elden Ring manages to offer.

I should share that the “Lands Between” is varied and cast. You will come across ruins, highlands, castles, swamps, and plains. When you play this game, you will get the option to explore the game, either on foot or via your spectral steed or Torrent. You can ride over a cliff or across meadows. Legacy dungeons and dungeons are hidden in the terrain. They will connect you to the overworld in creative ways. You will come across something new every time you play this game, either inside some ruin or over some ridge.

I should share that the combat system in Elden Ring is uncompromising and deep. Summons, stealth, magic, and weapons, everything matters in the game. Similarly, positioning, stamina management, dodging, and parrying are essential in the game. You will get a real sense of achievement when you navigate a cursed territory and defeat a difficult boss.

Elden Ring does not hold your hand when it comes to rewards. Indeed, the gameplay is punishing as per my experience. However, the rewards are impressive. Examples include new skills, story beats, loot, and a sense of growth, which are highly satisfying. The gameplay gets richness from the NPCs, mysteries, and side tasks. Further, the balance of seeing something menacing in the distance and deciding whether to return or go there is a huge part of the thrill.

Multiplayer & Community Tone

Simmons signs, invasions, and Co-op, all the usual Soulslike multiplayer elements are present in this game as well. These things improve not only the level of difficulty but also the strategy. Further, the lore, art style, and soundscape are all top-tier consistently. Everything shines here, including graceful dread, environmental storytelling, and implied stories.

Elden Ring feels like a world you can get lost in. The world is filled with mystery, beauty, and danger. Remember that it is not the game for casual drop-in play. It needs patience, often trial and error, and you should be ready to face repeated failures. However, I should say that there is something addictive in that pattern; you try, fail, adapt, and finally conquer the game.

I should say that the game is visually haunting. Most importantly, music adds weight, and the game often rewards curiosity. At times, pacing issues show up in the game. Not everyone will like the vague directions and long walking stretches. However, this is also part of the identity of Elden Ring.
